High School Fire Academy
Our High School Fire Academy is open to rising high school Juniors and seniors. Students will attend courses from 8 to 10 a.m. on school days during the fall and spring semesters of their Junior and Senior years. All books and equipment are provided at no cost to students. Students must have their own transportation.
The Fire Protection Technology curriculum is designed to provide students with the technical knowledge and skills necessary for advancement within the fire protection community and related firefighting industries. The program also offers a sound foundation for continuous higher learning in fire protection, administration, and management.
As an NC Certified Firefighter, students can become a member of a Volunteer Fire Department or become employed within the fire services. NC firefighter certification also serves as a prerequisite for specialized and higher-level training within the fire service.
Coursework includes fire prevention and safety, public education, building construction, fire ground strategies and tactics, and local government finance and laws, as they apply to emergency services management. Students will learn technical and administrative skills such as hydraulics, hazardous materials, arson investigation, fire protection safety, fire suppression management, law and code.
Employment opportunities may exist with providers of emergency medical services, fire departments, rescue agencies, hospital specialty areas, industry, and educational and government agencies.
FESHE Recognition
Rowan-Cabarrus Community College’s Fire Protection Technology program has demonstrated a commitment to the nationally recognized Fire & Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) model of standardized professional development education criteria.
The FESHE Recognition certificate is an acknowledgement that a collegiate emergency services degree program meets the minimum standards of excellence established by FESHE professional development committees and the National Fire Academy (NFA).
