Leadership for the Frontline Leader

March 24 - May 18

An examination of leadership in the context of the front-line leader. Emphasis on the role of every officer as a leader with discussions on the traits, virtues, and principles of leadership. A brief discussion on Servant Leadership follows with a closing discussion on the opportunities and obstacles to leadership development in agencies.

Objectives:

  1. Explain the theory of Every Officer is a Leader.
  2. Define leadership in the context of a front-line law enforcement leader.
  3. Explain the importance of developing leadership skills as a front-line leader.
  4. Discuss the two (2) ways people become leaders.
  5. List and describe the specific traits that are needed to be a leader in the law enforcement profession.
  6. Explain the ten (10) basic principles of leadership.
  7. In your own words, describe the concept of Servant Leadership.
  8. Identify and discuss the ten (10) characteristics of a Servant Leader.
  9. Discuss the role of Integrity, Character, and Ethics in law enforcement leaders at any level.
  10. Describe the specific skills needed to be successful as a law enforcement leader at any level.
  11. Identify opportunities for developing leadership skills as a front-line supervisor.
  12. List possible obstacles to your development as a law enforcement leader
