An examination of leadership in the context of the front-line leader. Emphasis on the role of every officer as a leader with discussions on the traits, virtues, and principles of leadership. A brief discussion on Servant Leadership follows with a closing discussion on the opportunities and obstacles to leadership development in agencies.
Objectives:
- Explain the theory of Every Officer is a Leader.
- Define leadership in the context of a front-line law enforcement leader.
- Explain the importance of developing leadership skills as a front-line leader.
- Discuss the two (2) ways people become leaders.
- List and describe the specific traits that are needed to be a leader in the law enforcement profession.
- Explain the ten (10) basic principles of leadership.
- In your own words, describe the concept of Servant Leadership.
- Identify and discuss the ten (10) characteristics of a Servant Leader.
- Discuss the role of Integrity, Character, and Ethics in law enforcement leaders at any level.
- Describe the specific skills needed to be successful as a law enforcement leader at any level.
- Identify opportunities for developing leadership skills as a front-line supervisor.
- List possible obstacles to your development as a law enforcement leader
